One of the world’s leading experts on Syria, Dr. Lesch will talk about the complexities of the Syrian civil war, US interests in Syria, and what lies ahead for Syria.
David Lesch is the Ewing Halsell Distinguished Professor of History in the Department of History at Trinity University. He received his PhD from Harvard University.
He is the author or editor of 15 books and overall has over 125 publications. His books include: Syria: The Fall of the House of Assad; The New Lion of Damascus: Bashar al-Asad and Modern Syria; The Arab-Israeli Conflict: A History; and The Middle East and the United States: History, Politics and Ideologies
Dr. Lesch has consistently met with and advised high level officials in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and the United Nations, and he has been and remains involved in several high-level diplomatic initiatives regarding the Syrian civil war. He frequently met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad between 2004 and 2009, and he often appears on national and international television and radio programs such as CNN, ABC, NBC, CNBC, Fox News, NPR, and the BBC.
He was also the #1 draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1980 baseball draft and played in the minor leagues before a rotator cuff injury ended his career. He is married to Judy Dunlap, who is here with us today.
